The Key to Travel
If you haven’t been everywhere, you should consider going anywhere. That is the simple key to unlocking travel so you can get out more often for less. Allow me to explain. Open GoogleFlights, select the closest major airport as your departure and leave the destination empty. If you live close to a major hub, you can get many destinations, some of them flat-out cheap.

Each of these cities has something unique to offer. Whether it’s the food, climate, or culture, they’re all unique in their own way. Some places may take a little more work, but I believe everywhere has some adventure to offer.
Rethinking Vacation Planning
The way we book vacations is somewhat broken. Many people decide on a destination first when better practice would be looking before deciding so you can find the best deal. For many, the price will be the price regardless, because that’s when they got vacation time and that’s where they decided to go long before looking.
Say your vacation gets approved and you’re flying out Friday, June 16th for a long weekend away. If your heart is set on Denver, you’ll be going for $188.00. However, if you’ve never been to New York, maybe it’s a good time to consider because we can get there for $71.00 cheaper. The same goes for Aruba. Who doesn’t want to go there? We’ll be going for $291.00. If it were up to me and all I wanted was a beach, I might start looking at Cancun. I’m going to Cancun for $172.00, that money saved is already going to go toward the next trip.

The Europe Effect
A similar story unfolds when we look at the fares to Europe. With higher fares though, this is where these costs or savings can really begin to multiply. In a coming blog, we’ll talk about some international travel hacks you can easily use to save money.
Say we have our hearts set on Santorini in June. No doubt beautiful but for one way we might be looking at a fare of $1,265.00. If we’re open though, we could go and enjoy Rome for $542, rough.

Being adaptable to where we go and when we go can lead to more life experienced. We don’t hesitate to look at off-seasons for tourist destinations where fares can generally be found lower. From experience, Barcelona is certainly a summer hot spot but I can tell you I didn’t miss the tourist lines and upcharges I avoided by going in December. The only thing Court and I will really look at in those instances are what we can expect the weather to be like. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going somewhere you are hoping for warm sunsets when their winter means rainy and cloudy most of the time.
The prices for flights are going to shift fast from day to day. By being willing to explore and adapt you might be able to fund more travel more often. Who knows too? Maybe the next time you go looking for fares, your destination will be the steal.
